What is the Garbage Collection?

Imagine you have a lot of toys that you like to play with. But sometimes, you don’t want to play with some toys anymore, and they just lie around taking up space.

Garbage collection is like having a magical helper that comes to your room and looks for toys you’re not playing with. When there are too many toys on the floor, when you ask the magical helper, or when your room doesn’t have much space left, the helper picks up the toys you’re not using and puts them away, so you have more room to play with your favorite toys. This way, your room stays nice and tidy, just like your computer’s memory stays clean when garbage collection happens.
